Chapter 285 - 243: That Despicable Dog
Chapter 285 - 243: That Despicable Dog
Ma Chunxin carefully examined the air rifle in his hands.
It was heavy and solidly built. The air cylinder was sizable. It wasn’t magazine-fed; it was a side-lever, single-shot loader.
Meaning you had to load one pellet for every shot you fired.
The rate of fire was slow, but its advantage was high accuracy. The air cylinder could be fully pressurized, giving it a lot of power.
From what Ma Chunxin knew, an air rifle like this, paired with a scope, could rival a sniper rifle in accuracy within 50 meters, with a muzzle energy easily exceeding 500 joules.
It was only because the lead pellets were soft that it couldn’t be compared to a real firearm.
But it still had considerable lethal force and was, without a doubt, contraband.
Snapping back to reality, Ma Chunxin quickly asked, "Shen Xin, you said he fired it. What did he hit?"
Shen Xin pointed to the car nearby. "It hit the car window."
’The kid probably wasn’t trying to shoot me,’ Shen Xin thought. ’He was likely aiming for Tian Kui. The trees must have blocked his view, so he didn’t see the car coming. He missed and happened to hit the window.’
Ma Chunxin and Qian Zhihai went over to take a look.
Qian Zhihai was so furious he felt like going back and giving the young shooter a piece of his mind.
If the shot had been off by just a little more, and if Shen Xin had happened to have her side window open, she would have been hit.
"Where did you get this!" Ma Chunxin demanded in a low voice.
The two guys squatted with their heads down, saying nothing.
Just then, Ma Chunxin’s phone rang. It was Liu Baoqing, asking about the current situation and their location. He was on his way with backup.
Ma Chunxin quickly reported what had happened.
On the other end of the line, Liu Baoqing let out a quiet sigh of relief. He had been shocked to hear someone had not only used an air rifle but had actually fired it.
Today’s air rifles were on a completely different level from the old air guns used for shooting birds.
Some news reports, about things like shattered house or car windows, were the work of modern air rifles like this one.
They were a great danger and had a terrible social impact.
Liu Baoqing paused for a moment, then said, "You and Xiaozhao take the suspects back to the station. Have Old Qian and Xiaoshen meet me at the shelter."
"Damn it, there’s something weird about this shelter."
He cursed under his breath.
Such a small shelter, and it was already causing so much trouble.
After hanging up, Ma Chunxin had Zhao Tong drive the suspects’ van, while he himself drove the two suspects back to the precinct.
A crowd had already gathered to watch.
Some drivers had even waited through two red lights, reluctant to leave the scene.
Shen Xin got back in her car and started driving toward the shelter.
"Your hand!"
Li Jiahui immediately spotted Shen Xin’s scraped hand.
Shen Xin glanced at it. It stung sharply and was oozing blood. She shook her head. "It’s nothing."
She was about to start driving.
Li Jiahui quickly stopped her. "Don’t you drive. There’s a first-aid kit in the trunk. Let me clean that for you. You scraped it on the ground; it must be filthy."
Shen Xin found it troublesome, but Li Jiahui had already opened her door and gotten out.
Qian Zhihai chuckled. "Come on, someone’s worried about you. Just sit back and enjoy it. I’ll drive."
Shen Xin sighed in resignation and handed over control of the wheel.
In the back seat, Li Jiahui carefully used a cotton swab to clean the dirt from Shen Xin’s wound, asking concernedly if it hurt.
Shen Xin was on her phone, checking Tiger Stripes’s location.
’I completely forgot about those two rascals.’
’But then again, if those two hadn’t run off on their own, I wouldn’t have stumbled into this.’
Shen Xin wondered what the two of them had been up to.
Chen Fang had said before that Tian Kui was always coming over to harass her. It started when she tried to rescue him, but his aggressive nature hadn’t changed and he killed another dog. When she then tried to catch him, he started holding a grudge against her.
’So did he drag Tiger Stripes along to get revenge?’
’He just made a new partner in crime and couldn’t wait to act.’
"It doesn’t hurt at all. Just hurry up and put a bandage on it, that’s enough," Shen Xin said, quickly stopping Li Jiahui when she saw her take out some gauze.
Li Jiahui held onto Shen Xin’s hand firmly, her expression determined, and insisted on wrapping it with gauze.
About ten minutes later, the three of them arrived at the shelter.
Tiger Stripes hadn’t left yet.
He was still wandering around near the shelter.
Before they could even turn onto the small path, a figure darted out from the bushes by the roadside.
Qian Zhihai slammed on the brakes, startled.
It was Yu Dalin.
He flagged down the car, ran around, and knocked on the window.
Shen Xin rolled down the window.
Yu Dalin looked terrified. "Officers, they have a gun!"
He made a gesture with his fingers to show its shape.
It was obvious he had witnessed the incident.
Shen Xin immediately asked him how many people there were.
Yu Dalin said there were two.
Shen Xin nodded slightly and told him to go home for now.
Yu Dalin didn’t leave. He took out his phone. "Officers, I took a video. Do you want to see it?"
’Just as I thought. He was secretly spying on Chen Fang again, just like before.’
’I wonder what the conflict is between those two.’
Shen Xin again told him to go home first, saying she would find him later.
Now that an air rifle was involved, the things Yu Dalin had filmed weren’t that significant anymore.
In any case, everything that had happened involving Chen Fang would have to be investigated to the very bottom.
Only then did Qian Zhihai continue driving forward.
They hadn’t even arrived yet when they heard what sounded like a hornet’s nest had been stirred up inside—nothing but the sound of dogs barking.
Shen Xin saw Chen Fang.
She was standing right at the entrance of the shelter, continuously picking up rocks from the ground and throwing them at Tian Kui in the distance.
Tian Kui was more than ten meters away from her, barking ferociously in her direction.
Chen Fang was so angry she couldn’t stop cursing.
Just then, Chen Fang saw Shen Xin and hurried over to meet them.
Tian Kui had already darted into the bushes and vanished.
Shen Xin had just gotten out of the car when Chen Fang said urgently, "Officers, you’re just in time! I want to file a report. Someone has a gun!"
Shen Xin quickly exchanged a look with Qian Zhihai.
’She’s really something,’ Shen Xin thought. ’Pulling a stunt like reporting it herself.’
But you had to admit, Chen Fang’s reaction was incredibly convincing. She looked just like a frightened middle-aged woman.
