Chapter 205: A Ring, A Promise, A Misunderstanding
Chapter 205: A Ring, A Promise, A Misunderstanding
"Yes, I know she’s your sister!" Matteo roared, his composure finally breaking. "But I’m terrified that the moment you walk out that door, you’ll never come back to me!"
Adrian blinked, completely taken aback. "You’re being completely dramatic right now."
"Whatever it takes!" Matteo pleaded, his voice suddenly cracking as tears welled up in his eyes. He grabbed Adrian’s hands, his terrifying aura completely vanishing into pure desperation. "Just promise me you won’t leave for Maya’s place. Please, Rian."
"What are you even talking about?" Adrian asked, thoroughly confused by the sudden breakdown.
"Please, Rian... we won’t talk about it," Matteo begged, a hot tear spilling down his cheek. "I won’t judge you. I will never mention it. Just please forgive me and don’t leave me. Please."
"Matteo, what are you talking about?"
"What if we invite Maya here instead?" Matteo rushed out, his words frantic. "She can stay here with you for days, weeks, even months—however long you want. I don’t mind. Just don’t leave me. I know I’m wrong. I know I brought all this disaster into your life, but please don’t abandon me."
Adrian grabbed him by the arms. "What are you talking about? You haven’t done anything wrong to me!"
"I know I’m wrong, baby," Matteo choked out.
He reached up and cupped Adrian’s face with trembling hands.
"I hurt you. I let bad people into your life. Everything that happened was my fault."
His voice cracked as tears filled his eyes.
"I’m so sorry."
Adrian stared at him in confusion, his brows knitting together.
"Baby..." he said softly, glancing around the room as if trying to understand what was happening. "Stop crying. You did nothing wrong."
"I don’t care if it’s true or not!" Matteo shouted, completely consumed by panic. "Please don’t leave me! I’m sorry!"
"Can you stop shouting at me?!" Adrian countered. "I am going to my sister’s place, and it’s final!" He stood up and walked toward the door.
"I need you!" Matteo cried.
Before Adrian could get far, Matteo caught up to him and grabbed his arm, stopping him halfway to the door.
He pulled Adrian back toward him and stepped closer until their chests were nearly touching. "I need you every single day! If you go to her, how am I supposed to manage?" In a frantic, clumsy blur of motion, Matteo’s trembling fingers flew to the buttons of Adrian’s shirt, ripping them open.
"I don’t care what they did to you out there! You are still all I ever want, baby! Please, Rian, please!"
Adrian immediately caught Matteo’s wrists, stopping his hands cold. "What exactly is wrong with you? Don’t force me... I’m not in the mood for this."
Matteo stared at him, his chest heaving as heavy tears poured down his face. "How many weeks or months do I have to wait before I can touch you again? This is absolute torture! Tell me what I did wrong, Rian, and I’ll apologize! I don’t care about what happened at that safe house. Just tell me where I wronged you! I love you... I don’t care about anything else, please baby..."
Adrian let go of his wrists, staring at him in utter disbelief. "Wait. Hold on. What do you think happened?"
Matteo looked straight into Adrian’s eyes, his voice trembling with raw pain. "I don’t care what they did to your body. I still love you. Please... think about my feelings."
Realizing the terrifying misunderstanding that had been eating Matteo alive, Adrian’s expression softened completely.
The frustration vanished, replaced by profound realization. He reached up, cupping Matteo’s face with both hands, his thumbs wiping away the tears. "Baby... what is going on? Talk to me."
Matteo choked back a sob, his hands flying into his pocket. "If it’s because of what Kevin and Kelly did to you... You don’t have to worry."
He pulled out his phone, his fingers shaking as he pulled up a high-definition photograph of a magnificent, custom-designed diamond engagement ring.
"Look. I already bought it. I’m going to marry you, Rian. I don’t care if they slept with you or not. All I want is you. I will marry you, baby! This is your proposal ring. I was already planning the whole thing, I was just waiting for you to recover!"
Adrian froze, staring from the phone screen up at Matteo’s tear-streaked face. The pieces finally clicked together in his head.
"Slow down," Adrian said, his voice incredibly calm. "You think... You think Kevin and Kelly slept with me?"
Matteo nodded miserably. "Yes."
"Yes!" Matteo cried out. "I love you so much, Rian. It doesn’t matter to me. I brought those monsters into your life, it’s my fault—"
Adrian looked at him, his heart swelling. A sudden sting burned behind his eyes. "Oh my God... Teo."
Matteo caught the nickname, a small, watery smile broke through his tears. "You’ve... you’ve never called me Teo before. Please, baby, don’t leave me."
"I have called you that before," Adrian said, a tender smile tugging at his lips.
"No, you haven’t," Matteo insisted, wiping at his nose, suddenly smiling like a vulnerable child. "I love you. Please don’t leave. I’ll work harder to be better for you."
Adrian looked at him, his heart completely melting at how entirely defenseless the terrifying mafia boss was right now. Matteo slowly took Adrian’s hand and pressed the palm against his own tear-wet cheek. "Think about how much I love you, Rian. I was already planning the proposal."
Adrian let out a soft laugh, shaking his head. "Well, now you ruined the surprise."
"It doesn’t matter," Matteo mumbled stubbornly. "Just promise you won’t leave because of what those monsters did."
Adrian sighed affectionately, taking Matteo by the hand and leading him over to the bed. He pushed Matteo down gently onto the mattress and immediately climbed onto his lap, straddling his waist.
"Listen to me very carefully," Adrian said, locking his eyes onto Matteo’s. "Kevin and Kelly never slept with me. I don’t know why you let that absolute nonsense get to you."
He shook his head.
"Kevin tried, yes, but he never got the chance. Kelly stepped in and stopped him, before he could do anything, claiming I belonged to him. The two idiots ended up arguing with each other like complete fools."
Adrian rolled his eyes.
"By then, the drugs in my system were already taking effect, and I passed out. When I woke up, I realized nothing had happened. Trust me, I would’ve known if it had."
He stared at Matteo in disbelief.
"I had no idea you’ve been carrying this around all week."
Matteo blinked, stunned. "But... Kevin explicitly said they both did it."
"And you actually believed a word out of that psycho’s mouth?" Adrian asked, raising an eyebrow.
"I didn’t care if it was true or not..." Matteo whispered, his head spinning.
"Then why were you trying to stop me from going to Maya’s place?"
"Because you’re planning to leave me!" Matteo murmured, wrapping his arms around Adrian’s waist. "I saw your text to her! You told her you were leaving and never coming back!"
Adrian paused, finally putting the pieces together. A bright laugh escaped him. "Since you completely ruined my proposal, I guess I have to tell you my plans so your crazy ass can finally calm down."
Matteo gripped his waist tighter. "Okay, baby. Tell me."
"When is your birthday, Matteo?" Adrian asked, tilting his head.
Matteo paused, mentally counting the days.
"Next week... wait."
His eyes widened.
"Don’t tell me you were planning a surprise."
"Yes!" Adrian huffed, smacking his shoulder lightly. "Maya was helping me plan a huge surprise party."
He pointed an accusing finger at him.
"But thanks to your paranoia, everything is ruined. The proposal is ruined. The birthday surprise is ruined. Nothing is a surprise anymore."
Adrian let out a dramatic sigh.
"When that ring finally arrives, you can just throw it at me from across the room because the romance is completely dead."
Matteo couldn’t stop the smile that tugged at his lips as Adrian continued his rant.
There he is, he thought with relief.
My sharp-tongued baby is finally coming back.
Matteo let out a long, ragged breath, burying his face in Adrian’s neck, his shoulders shaking with relief. "I’m sorry... I’m just so obsessed with you, and I was so terrified of losing you. I’m sorry I ruined it."
"It’s fine," Adrian murmured gently, running his fingers through Matteo’s hair. "At least your mind can finally rest. I am never leaving you, and absolutely no one touched me.
"I’m so happy," Matteo whispered, though a slight pout formed on his lips. "But it hurts that I ruined the very first surprise you ever tried to plan for me. Thank you, baby... thank you for not leaving me after all of this."
"Honestly, those are supposed to be my words to you," Adrian replied softly, resting his forehead against Matteo’s. "But thanks for ruining the plan anyway."
Matteo smiled, his dark eyes flashing with their familiar, possessive heat. "I prefer you stuck with me forever anyway. I don’t ever want you out of my sight again."
Adrian smiled back, the emotional release suddenly making his body feel warm and loose. "I feel completely exhausted from all this drama."
Matteo leaned in close, his lips brushing against Adrian’s ear as he whispered in a low, suggestive tone. "How about taking my cock? I’ll go incredibly slow... maybe that will help bring your strength right back. What do you say, babe?"
Adrian’s breath hitched, a flush creeping up his neck. He wrapped his arms securely around Matteo’s neck, a sultry smile breaking across his face. "I can’t say no to that. I’ve made you wait for way too long... Fuck me, daddy. But be gentle."
Matteo’s eyes darkened with pure desire. "Alright, baby. Let me give you the royal princess treatment... with just a touch of hard thrusts."
Adrian burst out laughing, the sound pure and unburdened. Gently, Matteo rolled him over, pinning him beneath his broad frame as he lay him down onto the soft sheets.
Matteo stared at Adrian for a long moment before a soft smile touched his lips.
"I love you so much, Adrian," he murmured.
A gentle warmth filled Adrian’s eyes.
"I love you more," he replied softly. "You’re everything I could ever want. You make my life feel complete."
Matteo’s smile widened.
"Me too, baby."
Without looking away from him, Matteo lowered his head and pressed a tender kiss...
