Chapter 524 Heading to San Francisco
Chapter 524 Heading to San Francisco
On June 1, Fu Yibai and Yang Mi flew to San Francisco.
Zhang Xinyu arrived in San Francisco three days in advance to finalize hotel arrangements, airport pick-up arrangements, and coordination with Lucasfilm.
Yang Mi's entourage consisted of eight people: two agent assistants, a stylist, a translator, two physical trainers, and a nutritionist.
The June sea breeze in San Francisco carried the salty smell of the Pacific Ocean. As the convoy crossed the Golden Gate Bridge, Yang Mi sat in the back seat, silently looking out the window.
"Nervous?" Fu Yibai asked.
"A little."
Yang Mi did not deny it.
"Don't be nervous, Hollywood isn't as glamorous as you think."
You need to remember, your man is the owner of a franchise film company, and I've got your back.
Fu Yibai grabbed Yang Mi's hand and encouraged her.
Yang Mi turned to look at Fu Yibai, flipped her hand over in his palm, and intertwined her fingers with his.
"I know."
The convoy came to a stop in front of Lucasfilm's headquarters.
Zhang Xinyu glanced back from the passenger seat to make sure they were both ready before getting out of the car to meet with the receptionist.
Catherine Kennedy's assistant was already waiting at the front desk.
She was a white woman in her forties, wearing a dark blue suit dress and frameless glasses, and spoke in a steady and efficient tone.
"Mr. Fu, Ms. Yang, and Ms. Kennedy are waiting for you in the conference room."
Several people followed their assistant through the open-plan office area.
The walls on both sides of the corridor are covered with movie posters from Lucasfilm over the years, from the original Star Wars trilogy to the Indiana Jones series, arranged like a time tunnel.
The assistant pushed open the meeting room door.
Catherine Kennedy stood up from behind the conference table.
She was in her early sixties, with neatly combed short silver-gray hair and wearing a dark gray linen suit. Her aura was calm and composed, yet not intimidating.
"Director Fu, we've finally met." She extended her hand.
"Ms. Kennedy, it's an honor to meet you." Fu Yibai shook hands with her.
"This must be Ms. Yang Mi."
Catherine turned to Yang Mi, her gaze lingering on her face for two seconds.
Yang Mi extended her hand and began speaking in English, which she had practiced countless times beforehand.
"Ms. Kennedy, it's a pleasure to meet you. Thank you for giving me this audition opportunity."
Catherine took her hand, a slight smile playing on her lips.
"Your English is better than I expected. Please have a seat."
The group sat down at the conference table.
Catherine's assistant placed two thick contracts in front of Fu Yibai and Yang Mi respectively, and then put two cups of coffee next to them.
"The director's contract will be based on the terms confirmed in our email."
Catherine opened the document in front of her.
"With a director fee of 20 million US dollars, director Fu Yibai had complete creative control during the early stages of project preparation."
The decision on the female lead rests with Director Fu; this is a consensus we've already reached.
Fu Yibai opened the contract and read it page by page from beginning to end.
"Were the terms and conditions for the training camp and auditions written in?"
"It's written in, in Ms. Yang's contract."
Catherine pointed to the portion in front of Yang Mi.
"A three-month professional acting training program followed by an audition evaluation by Lucasfilm."
All expenses during the training camp will be borne by our side.
After reading the last page of the director's contract, Fu Yibai picked up the pen on the table and signed his name in the signature column. He put down the pen and turned to look at Yang Mi.
Yang Mi opened her actor contract and stared at the signature section for a few seconds when she reached the last page.
The contract clearly states the actress playing the female lead, Rey, her salary, and the corresponding rights and obligations.
She took a deep breath and signed her name in the signature column.
Fu Yibai returned both contracts to Catherine.
Catherine took the contract, glanced at the signature section, and then handed it to her assistant.
"Welcome to the Star Wars family."
Catherine stood up and shook hands with Yang Mi, then with Fu Yibai.
"The training camp will begin next Monday at the Lucas Training Center."
We will arrange for a performance coach, action director, and dialogue coach to oversee the entire process, focusing on physical control and English dialogue delivery.
"I will try my best."
Catherine nodded and sat down again to change the subject to the production aspect.
"Director Fu, the project is currently in the early preparation stage."
The producer is John Swartz, a senior producer at Lucasfilm who previously served as production coordinator for the Star Wars prequel series.
The core teams for the art department and special effects department have been assembled, and the concept design drafts are still being refined.
"Where's the script?" Fu Yibai asked.
"The script was written by Lawrence Kasdan, and he has already submitted the third draft."
Catherine took a script from her assistant and placed it in front of Fu Yibai.
"You can take it back and look at it first."
Fu Yibai put the script into his bag.
"What stage has the filming team reached in terms of assembly?"
"The director of photography and director of lighting have not yet been finalized, but other technical positions are being filled gradually."
Filming is tentatively scheduled to begin next October, with nearly a year remaining for preliminary preparations.
"Okay, I'll stay here for a month. I'll let you know if there are any problems."
"Okay, no problem."
