Chapter 243: Social Gathering
Chapter 243: Social Gathering
Yuan Xiu understood that, in short, Ding Xueping had offended all the "workers, peasants, and soldiers" students on his own.
The rest of the class was also implicated.
Almost none of the "worker-peasant-soldier" students were willing to socialize with other students from their class.
As a class committee member, Yuan Xiu naturally couldn't only think of herself. Ding Xuewen was wrong, but the rest of the class were not.
Hao Wen raised his hand from the side: "How about I help make the contact?"
As soon as he said that, all three female classmates turned to look at him.
"Will contacting them be effective?" Lin Fangmei asked.
Hao Wen clicked his tongue. "I'm the class's academic representative, aren't I? How come I'm useless?"
Zhu Lu: "His contact might actually be useful. In class, his words carry more weight than mine."
Hao Wen raised his chin; he hadn't been the class monitor for nothing.
"However, I must make it clear first that it would be best if Ding Xuewen did not participate in the social event."
Yuan Xiu nodded. "I promise you. Social events are a matter of personal choice, and it's not necessary for every student in the class to participate."
Yuan Xiu organized the get-together because she had overheard her classmates complaining. She thought that if it succeeded, all the better, but if it failed…
It wasn't her fault.
Hao Wen finalized the social event within a few days. "Not many people in the class are willing to participate, only seven or eight classmates. We can arrange it for this weekend, and the location can be either off-campus or on-campus. However, I suggest it should be on-campus. Our school is big, so we can find a place by the lake to sit on the ground, chat, and enjoy the spring scenery on the lake. By the way, some of our classmates are really good at basketball, so we can all play together."
Yuan Xiu also thought it was a good idea and accepted his suggestion.
After returning to the classroom, I told everyone about it.
"A social event with the senior students from Class 1, Sophomore Year of Traditional Chinese Medicine?"
"Yuan Xiu, how did you manage to arrange all the social events so quietly?" Zheng Yuemei asked in surprise, "I've never heard you mention it before."
"I can't say anything that's uncertain. If you're willing to participate, just sign up. The time is this weekend at nine o'clock in the morning. If we communicate well, we can also go to the court for a friendly match in the afternoon."
One male student laughed and said, "That's great! I've been wanting to play a match with the upperclassmen for a long time!"
Many people signed up, but as Yuan Xiu said, not all students participated. Some students had other commitments, some were not interested in socializing with upperclassmen, such as Zheng Yuemei, and some students with weak social skills preferred to read books in the library.
Yuan Xiu did not invite Ding Xuewen. When a classmate told him, he declined, saying that he was too busy with the poetry club and didn't have time.
That would be even better. If he really signed up, Yuan Xiu would probably have no choice but to tell him the truth without giving him any face.
"That Yuan Xiu actually organized a social event with students from Class 1 of the second year! How ridiculous!"
Turning around, Ding Xuewen complained to the members of the poetry club.
"What is there to learn from worker-peasant-soldier students? They all get into university through recommendations. How many of them are truly talented? Give them a dictionary and ask them to read by pinyin, and they'll probably still get it wrong."
Because of the social gathering, Yuan Xiu's weekend was sacrificed this week.
The students from both classes gathered directly by the small lake at the school.
Two groups of people: the students from Class 1 of the Class of '77 were in high spirits, while the students from Class 1 of the Sophomore Year seemed less enthusiastic.
Of the eight people, only Hao Wen and Zhu Lu kept the atmosphere lively.
Liu Yazhi whispered to Yuan Xiu, "Why do you seem so unwilling?"
Yuan Xiu: "Have you forgotten what Ding Xuewen's poetry society did a while ago?"
The students immediately understood that Ding Xuewen had offended the senior students, and they were being targeted by his anger!
It's okay, we're all adults, we can talk it out and it will be fine.
The problem doesn't lie with them.
Yuan Xiu thought the same thing. After everyone sat down under the trees by the lake, she spoke:
Good morning, seniors and students. Thank you all for your active participation in this social event.
"I know that some conflicts have arisen between us freshmen and seniors because of some words and things. Here, I would like to thank the seniors again for agreeing to participate in this event despite past grievances."
"Today, our TCM department, with students from both senior and junior classes, is sitting together not just for formalities or to create a lively social gathering, but to resolve conflicts, unite our hearts, and pass on medical skills. As the ancients said, 'Two people of one mind can break metal,' and 'A single thread cannot make a line, a single tree cannot make a forest.' We medical students must understand the importance of unity. Let's not allow the opinions of a few individuals or the prejudices of a small group to affect the entire collective!"
"Unity is strength. This is not just a slogan, but the foundation of our lives and our studies. As the older generation often said, 'With unity of purpose, even Mount Tai can be moved.' We are all here to learn real skills and serve the people, not to be petty or to divide ourselves. In this school, there is no 'you' or 'me,' only 'everyone.'"
"...Our traditional Chinese medicine emphasizes the harmony of Yin and Yang and the smooth flow of Qi and blood. A class or a department should also be harmonious and united. When we study medicine, we should first learn morality, and when we practice medicine, we should first be good people. Today, let's take this opportunity to speak frankly and open our minds. From now on, we will not distinguish between high and low, early and late, workers, peasants and soldiers, or new and old students. Let's respect each other and help each other."
"Prioritize harmony and learning, respect your teachers, believe in their teachings, befriend your friends, and accomplish your goals. Let's pass on the fine traditions and skills of the Traditional Chinese Medicine department from generation to generation!"
As soon as Yuan Xiu finished speaking, the second-year students looked at each other, and one of the male students stood up.
Hao Wen introduced, "This is Zhang Weiguo, our class's sports and cultural affairs representative."
Zhang Weiguo said loudly, "Fellow students, fellow students, what this junior just said was sincere, heartfelt, and reasonable. It warmed our hearts. This shows that you didn't judge people with prejudice!"
"The minor frictions and misunderstandings in the past were just the tempers of young people. Once they were talked out, they were no longer a big deal. It is a rare fate that we can all study medicine in the same school. As the saying goes, 'It takes ten years to share a boat ride and a hundred years to share a pillow.' Our studying together as classmates is a fate that we have cultivated in our previous lives."
"We are the upperclassmen, and you are the lowerclassmen. There is only a difference in seniority, not in rank. Studying medicine is a journey where 'in a group of three, there is always something to learn.' Everyone has strengths and weaknesses. We can only progress together by learning from each other and supporting one another. If anyone looks down on us, it's because they lack vision!"
"As the ancients said: A gentleman seeks harmony but not uniformity, while a petty person seeks uniformity but not harmony. We can exchange ideas and discuss opinions, but we must never damage harmony or chill people's hearts. Only when we think in the same direction and work together can we learn any medical skill and resolve any problem."
"Today's get-together is a great opportunity to let bygones be bygones. Let bygones be bygones. In the future, we senior students will definitely share our learning experience and clinical insights with everyone. We also hope that our junior students will dare to think and ask questions, and study and practice diligently."
"Let's unite our thoughts and efforts, work together with one heart and one mind, help each other, and study hard to master our medical skills so that we can become good doctors who are worthy of our patients and our own lives!"
