Chapter 518: All in
Chapter 518: All in
Soon, the dealer began dealing the cards.
Zhang Lei got a three and a five, for a total of eight points.
Frank held a ten and a seven, for a total of seventeen points.
The dealer reveals a face-up card with nine points, and a face-down card with an unknown value.
The dealer looked at Frank, signaling him to choose whether to continue drawing cards.
Frank stared at his seventeen points, his brow furrowed. Taylor, standing beside him, suggested, "Frank, your score isn't safe. You could ask for another card."
Frank pondered to himself that getting three or four points out of seventeen would be relatively safe, but if the total exceeded four, he would bust. After much hesitation, he gritted his teeth and said, "I want one more card."
The dealer then dealt another card, which turned out to be a two.
Frank breathed a sigh of relief; his hand now totaled nineteen points, a decent number. However, facing the dealer's revealed nine points and the unknown concealed card, he still didn't have a sure chance of winning.
Looking at Zhang Lei's hand, Frank couldn't help but taunt, "I have nineteen points, I can easily beat you."
Zhang Lei smiled and said, "That's not necessarily true."
After saying that, he looked at the female dealer and said, "Continue dealing the cards."
The female dealer pushed a card in front of Zhang Lei. Jessica, who was standing nearby, leaned in and gently blew on the card, as if praying for Zhang Lei's well-being.
Zhang Lei turned to her with a smile and asked, "Jessica, do you think I'll be lucky?"
Jessica looked nervous, but said confidently, "It will be fine."
Zhang Lei slowly revealed the cards; it was an Ace. He chuckled softly, "As expected, my luck has always been pretty good."
This Ace is flexible; it can be counted as one point or eleven points. If counted as eleven points, his score is equal to Frank's, both having nineteen points.
Zhang Lei raised an eyebrow at Frank: "I've said it before, the key to gambling has always been the word 'gamble'."
Then, he looked at the dealer again: "One more card."
Upon hearing this, everyone present tensed up instantly. Taylor and Kevin kept shouting, hoping Zhang Lei would bust. They knew that in blackjack, a hand exceeding 21 results in busting and losing.
All eyes were focused on the cards in Zhang Lei's hand. With a crisp sound, the cards were completely flipped over, revealing a two of spades.
Frank, his face filled with disbelief, roared, "Impossible!"
Zhang Lei slowly stood up, looked at Frank, and smiled calmly: "Nothing is impossible in this world. From the moment you became afraid of the game, you had already lost."
He surveyed the entire room and exclaimed, "This is the allure of gambling!"
A cheer erupted from the crowd.
Then, the dealer slowly turned over his face-down card, which turned out to be an Ace. The crowd erupted in cheers. At this moment, the dealer would not ask for any more cards; the outcome was already decided.
Jessica was overjoyed and silently calculated her tip. Five percent commission, ten million bet, that's a full five hundred thousand.
She leaned closer to Zhang Lei incredulously and whispered, "My tip?"
Zhang Lei smiled and reassured him, "Don't worry, you won't lose a single penny. I'll settle the accounts with you slowly after I finish this bet."
Jessica excitedly hugged Zhang Lei, kissed him, and said joyfully, "Darling, you're amazing."
Zhang Lei truly felt the enthusiasm of foreigners, and he knew that this enthusiasm was also mixed with the support of money.
In the blink of an eye, 20 million chips were placed in front of Zhang Lei, while Frank lost 10 million chips.
Zhang Lei glanced at Frank, whose face was grim, and asked with a light laugh, "Want to continue?"
Frank stared intently at Zhang Lei's arrogant demeanor and gritted his teeth as he replied, "Of course we must continue. This is just the beginning."
Zhang Lei's lips curled up: "Then you'd better work hard. I'll raise my bet to 20 million next round."
Frank was shocked upon hearing the number. Normally, one wouldn't bet all their chips at once; a steady, methodical approach is the safest bet. In this case, Zhang Lei had already secured victory.
Frank, harboring a ulterior motive, deliberately provoked him with a remark: "Don't just talk the talk."
Zhang Lei's eyes remained calm: "I mean what I say."
As soon as he finished speaking, he pushed all 20 million chips to the center of the gambling table.
Seeing Zhang Lei's desperate move, Frank's forehead broke out in a fine sweat.
Zhang Lei feigned a sigh and said to Manager Ethan with a smile, "Manager Ethan, it seems that the air conditioning on your first floor isn't working very well. Mr. Frank is sweating profusely from the heat."
Manager Ethan smiled faintly and calmly replied, "Our casino maintains a constant indoor temperature of 18 degrees Celsius year-round, which is a standard comfortable temperature. It seems that Mr. Frank is simply feeling somewhat weak and fatigued."
Frank was filled with resentment at Ethan's teasing and glared at him fiercely.
The surrounding gamblers watched the scene unfold and began whispering and discussing it amongst themselves.
Soon, Zhang Lei, holding the wine brought by Manager Ethan, said with a smile as he drank, "Let's begin."
Frank steeled himself and placed a million-dollar bet on the table.
Zhang Lei smiled and said, "Frank, with such a small bet, when will you ever be able to beat me?"
Frank said, "What do you want?"
Zhang Lei laughed and said, "How about this? I can't play with you all night long. Whoever wins a hundred million US dollars first wins, okay?"
Frank looked at Zhang Lei, nodded, and said, "Okay, I hope you can keep winning."
Zhang Lei knew Frank was being sarcastic, but he still calmly raised his glass to Frank and said, "Then thank you for your cooperation."
Then the betting began.
Soon, each person was dealt two cards.
Frank revealed his first card, a ten, and then his second card, which was also a ten, for a total of twenty points.
He gripped the cards tightly, looked at Zhang Lei, and said in a tense tone, "I don't believe you can get 21 points this round."
Zhang Lei smiled faintly: "That's not necessarily true."
As he finished speaking, he slowly unfolded the two cards in his hand, revealing two Aces.
"I want to split the cards."
All eyes were fixed on the table, and the dealer immediately dealt Zhang Lei two more cards.
When Zhang Lei revealed his cards, the entire room erupted in uproar; there were two more Aces.
"Continue dealing the cards," Zhang Lei said calmly.
Frank scoffed, "Is this your first time playing? Don't you know that breaking hands requires raising the bet?"
"Don't rush, it's just a bargaining chip."
Zhang Lei looked at Manager Ethan beside him and took out a black card: "Exchange another 80 million chips for me."
Manager Ethan quickly took the card, and soon, a cart full of chips was transported over by staff in a small cart.
The onlookers were agitated; such a large sum of chips was extremely rare in the first-floor gambling hall.
"Now, I should have enough chips, right?" Zhang Lei asked with a smile.
Frank's face was ashen, filled with resentment: "You better pray that your cards beat the dealer's, otherwise, this hundred million will all go down the drain."
"Don't worry, I've always had good luck."
Zhang Lei looked at the dealer and said calmly, "Continue dealing the cards."
After all four cards were dealt, everyone's hearts were in their throats.
Jessica clung tightly to Zhang Lei's arm, practically pressed herself against him, her eyes filled with nervousness.
Zhang Lei gently patted her hand: "Don't be nervous."
The bodyguard, with his sharp eyes, kept a close eye on everything. From his perspective, he clearly saw the moment Zhang Lei flipped the card, and the number on the card subtly changed, turning the original 8 into a J. He was incredibly shocked.
Jessica was the first to see the cards and immediately screamed, "Zhang Lei! Look!"
Zhang Lei slowly revealed the remaining three cards. The four cards had different suits, but the same rank.
Frank across from him instantly slumped into his chair, his face ashen.
The dealer simultaneously revealed his own cards, which totaled exactly twenty points. The difference in skill was immediately apparent, and in just this one round, Zhang Lei won eighty million.
Manager Ethan was completely astonished, never expecting Zhang Lei's luck to be so incredible.
Zhang Lei looked at the defeated Frank and asked with a smile, "How about it, want to continue?"
Frank gritted his teeth and stubbornly persisted, utterly unwilling to admit defeat: "Keep going! You're still ten million short. I absolutely will not admit defeat until I've won a hundred million."
Just then, Taylor quickly spoke up to dissuade him: "Frank, stop betting blackjack with him, let's play dice instead."
Frank instantly realized what was happening and immediately chimed in, "That's right, let's play dice instead!"
"Whatever." Zhang Lei said indifferently, and the group then moved to the dice gambling area.
Frank looked at Zhang Lei and asked in a cold voice, "You should know how this game works. You can compare sizes or guess the exact number of points."
Zhang Lei glanced at the various betting areas on the table and nodded slightly.
The customers who were having fun nearby stopped what they were doing and gathered around, all curious about the upcoming competition between the two.
Zhang Lei immediately took out ten million chips and placed them on a triple six without hesitation.
Frank was utterly shocked and exclaimed, "Are you sure you're betting on a triple? Or the hardest one, three sixes?"
"Is there a problem?" Zhang Lei asked calmly.
The people around him gave him mocking smiles, and Jessica gently shook his arm, whispering, "Zhang Lei, why don't you bet on 'big or small'? The odds of winning are much higher."
"Don't worry, my luck is on fire today, so I'll naturally press my advantage."
Frank said with a sneer, "The odds of three sixes are high, but the probability of them appearing is extremely low. You're bound to lose this round."
Zhang Lei neither confirmed nor denied it.
Frank then took out a million chips and placed a steady bet on the high-scoring numbers.
Only two people placed bets throughout the entire game, with Manager Ethan standing not far away, silently observing the entire betting activity.
Zhang Lei listened intently and clearly caught the sound of the dice colliding in the dice cup. He instantly determined that the number was one, two, or three, which meant it was small.
He knew perfectly well that the points in these kinds of bets could often be manipulated.
Just as the dice cup came to a complete stop, Zhang Lei raised his hand and gently tapped the table.
In an instant, the number of dice inside the dice cup changed, becoming three sixes.
Everyone held their breath and waited. The dealer slowly lifted the dice cup, and as soon as a crack was revealed, the crowd erupted in a deafening gasp.
"It's three sixes! A leopard!"
The dealer opened the dice cup completely in disbelief, staring at the three neatly arranged sixes, speechless with astonishment. He glanced at Manager Ethan, his eyes filled with bewilderment and confusion.
Jessica jumped up excitedly. Three sixes, a leopard, with odds as high as 1 to 180.
A bet of ten million yuan turned into an instant 1.8 billion yuan for Zhang Lei.
Frank witnessed the whole thing, his legs went weak, and he collapsed to the ground, his body ice-cold.
Manager Ethan's forehead was covered in cold sweat, and he was extremely flustered. No one had expected such an outrageous result.
The gamblers around them went completely mad. The huge prize of 1.8 billion was a fortune that ordinary people could never achieve in a lifetime.
Jessica's cheeks flushed, her eyes sparkled, and she was so happy she almost fainted on the spot, gazing adoringly at Zhang Lei beside her.
